The Expat Mom Gift Guide
From Expat Mom, 1 year ago Similar articles
Tis the season to post gift guides and I figure I might as well since I’m already in the gift guide mode thanks to Squidoo! I’ve divided this guide into a few smaller sections to give you some great ideas. Recommended Gifts: For Kids! Lego: We just got our first set of Lego a couple of months ago and the boys have been playing with it SO much. Definitely a must have in any household with children. I spent hours playing with this stuff as a kit, myself. LeapPad: Yet another great...

I have never been fond of surprises. Â But, Tom keeps trying to change that...and he just might succeed! Â He entered a contest with BelmopanCityOnline and won a Mather's Day gift for me. Â Here is his winning entry:"Alida has been a great wife of 30 years, mother of two grown sons & now helps people who have been abused or rescued from sex trafficking. She has been giving to others all her life & deserves a month of receiving!"The prize is a month of free housecleaning...I...
Beauty and marketing

Sometimes it is possible to get things just horribly wrong. Â My dear children and husband gave me the luxury of a facial yesterday morning as a mother's day gift. Â 90 minutes of pampering (I can't remember when last I had a facial). Â It was great. Â But then after, the beautician sat me down and did the hard sales talk on me. Â Was I aware that I had wrinkles. Â Well, duh, shock horror, I'm 46, if I didn't there would be something rather un-natural about the matter....

I recently friended a UK based American expat named Leigh who was visiting Paris on a extended trip. We hit it off from the start. She has a cute blog and an even cuter daugheter named Lois who Maximilien took a liking to immediately. Lois doesn't speak French but that didn't keep her from making fast friends with Max. You would never believe the conversations these two had a mismash of French and English and lots of laughing and wrestling. Lois can keep up with the boys for sure....
I want to be just like my mom
From Tales of a Texpatriate, 4 days ago, Similar articles
Today is Mother's Day in the US. I won't go into my feelings on why or why not one day a year is even enough to tell someone like a mother thank you, or why in general days like this drive me nuts because it's so manufactured and false, and that I think if you love someone you should show them that love EVERYDAY, and if you want to send them a gift just SEND IT and don't wait for a retail-sanctioned holiday. Ok, well I kind of did go into my feelings on that, whatever, I'll stop. (gets off...

How many times have you heard someone say "this is the worst thing that could ever happen to me"? Â Maybe you have been the one to say it. Â But is it really true' Â I was watching a TV show last night and someone made that comment because they had made a simple mistake. Â No one was going to lose their life. They were just inconvenienced and she claimed it was the worst thing in the world. This past week someone we know found out that they have an invasive carcinoma. Â And...
Markets of Paris

There are SOO many guide books to Paris. Â We've seen 'em all. Â N'est-ce pas'So when I picked up Markets of Paris, in my jaded I-already-know-Paris frame of mind, I didn't have great expectations. Boy, was I wrong! Â Capital-W wrong. This is a gem of a guide to Paris. First of all, it is organized in the way that any guide to Paris should be, which is by arrondissement. Â Second, it is more than just a guide to the open air food markets in Paris, but rather includes all shopping...
The perfect tribute to Václav Havel : the Václav Havel Prize for Creative Dissent

The Goddess of Democracyfrom Tiananmen Squarecirca 1989Václav Havel and the Czechs inspired my 'Empty Nest Expat' adventure. I knew people who could elect a playwright as President were different in a way I couldn't define than me and my countrymen. The Czech Republic seemed like such a delightfully highbrow learned society. I wanted to learn all about the Czechs by moving overseas and seeing what they were like.To this day, I'm inspired by Václav Havel. This week, I...
