Expat Royal Wedding Fever
From A Letter from the Netherlands, 1 year ago Similar articles
According to an article in The Telegraph this week, there has been a significant surge in flight searches within the Netherlands for the dates around THE royal wedding planned for 2011.For those of you living under stones or who have been incommunicado in recent weeks, the British crown prince, Prince William, is due to marry Kate Middleton on April 29 2011. It is the first royal wedding of interest since Prince William's father married Lady Diana Spencer in 1981 (and no I won't say "and look...

Happy 40th, my love
From Lioness in Japan, Yesterday, Similar articles
Happy birthday to the kangaroo! Today is the actual day but his birthday feels longer than an Indian wedding twice over. He has had celebrations in New York, Wiesbaden, Singapore (twice: once with friends and once with my folks as shown in the photos above), Sydney (will post this soon), tonight with Mrs Kangaroo who flew in from Sydney this morning, and the grand finale this Saturday with our Tokyo friends. I think he actually likes being 40…since he is celebrating it so many...

I recently friended a UK based American expat named Leigh who was visiting Paris on a extended trip. We hit it off from the start. She has a cute blog and an even cuter daugheter named Lois who Maximilien took a liking to immediately. Lois doesn't speak French but that didn't keep her from making fast friends with Max. You would never believe the conversations these two had a mismash of French and English and lots of laughing and wrestling. Lois can keep up with the boys for sure....
The perfect tribute to Václav Havel : the Václav Havel Prize for Creative Dissent
From Empty Nest Expat, 2 weeks ago, Similar articles
The Goddess of Democracyfrom Tiananmen Squarecirca 1989Václav Havel and the Czechs inspired my 'Empty Nest Expat' adventure. I knew people who could elect a playwright as President were different in a way I couldn't define than me and my countrymen. The Czech Republic seemed like such a delightfully highbrow learned society. I wanted to learn all about the Czechs by moving overseas and seeing what they were like.To this day, I'm inspired by Václav Havel. This week, I...

HORN PLEASE
From Delhi Bound, 3 weeks ago, Similar articles
I'm becoming just a wee bit obsessed with capturing all that India has to offer.  Color. Signage. I imagine what some of my photographs would look like, framed and matted on a wall. I wonder how I would ever choose amongst the thousands and thousands of photos that I have taken over the past three years.  Halfway through my stay here in Delhi I started the Fading Ladies group with 5 other expat women. We came from...
Live Music
From Frenchless in France, 3 weeks ago, Similar articles
On the weekends in Paris, if the weather is nice, you can find musicians all over playing or singing their music hoping to make a little money and maybe sell a CD. I’ve seen this guy all over Paris and even saw him on TV. I guess he has some sort of thing with wheels to move the piano around. He was very good. This group was at the entrance of the Palais Royal. This man was singing soprano as you can hear. He was very intense.
The day I got to see Her Royal Majesty, The Queen
From MarathonMum, 3 weeks ago, Similar articles
When we first moved here, 13 1/2 years ago, I naively thought we'd be tripping over the Royal Family in London. Let me assure you, that is not the case. I had a false alarm in 2005, when I THOUGHT I saw the Queen at the Marathon Expo, when I was collecting my number, but it was not to be. So I've never seen anyone remotely royal. I've never even seen a minor royal, like Princess Michael of Kent.(I'm not counting the time I got my picture taken with the picture of the Queen when we earned our...
Losing the plot
From Not wrong, just different, 3 weeks ago, Similar articles
I thought I ought to post something so that you know I'm ok after the trauma of the tornado. I don't want you to think I've lost the plot.Speaking of which, I have read on more than one American-in-Britain expat blog how much they enjoy that phrase. 'Lost the plot'. I agree. It's a splendid phrase, and one I've stopped using since being here. I've lost the 'lost the plot'.Of course I'm also in
Beautify your home with plants
From New Life in KL!, 3 weeks ago, Similar articles
For those looking for plants, orchids and other planting accessories (and necessities), you can try this huge place at Petaling Jaya which houses a lot of different small nurseries. I went there to buy organic soil, pots, orchid, and other flowering plants. Price seem reasonable and if you are an expat like me you may run into some communication problems as some of them employ non-English speaking Malaysians. Though that didn't stop me from spending an hour (and money!) at that place.Hope...
A Dutch-Spanish wedding
From BlondebutBright, 3 weeks ago, Similar articles
I recently attended a Dutch-Spanish family wedding in Limburg. Both sides are partly in-laws: my hubby's aunt married a Dutch guy back in the 70's. They produced two Dutch-Spanish children and raised them on Dutch soil. Last night, one of those kids - all grown up - married a Dutch woman. As this family has lived in Limburg their whole lives, they are quite Dutch. But the Spanish family is still
