lay low in the snow

From Reykjavik Harbor Watch, 1 year ago Similar articles

The snow is just warm enough to slide down the window in lazy ribbons, accumulating in fractals along the lower sill, and my trustily unreliable streetlamp winks and flickers as always. The air is unusually still, so the snow billows beneath the illumination in ways remembered from childhood. Across the street one tiny tree on a doorstep still twinkles with ice-blue fairy lights, left from

Ottawa Tulips Festival ? 2012 Edition

From Correr Es Mi Destino, Yesterday, Similar articles

Hard to believe that just a few weeks ago, we got a surprise snow fall. The weather recently got warmer and it always feels humid. With all the rain we had lately, the trees, grass and plants are chlorophyll green and I think this time I can say it's spring. Finally. In May. The opening weekend of the 2012 Tulips Festival was very warm, and most of the flowers had just bloomed. Dow's Lake was packed and people were fighting to have their picture taken by the flower beds. Eh, this is Canada,...

Imitation Snow Crab Sandwich Recipe (Surimi)

Imitation Snow Crab Sandwich Recipe (Surimi)

From Nami-nami, 3 days ago, Similar articles

In the ideal world, of course, I would use freshly picked and cleaned proper crab meat to make this open sandwich. However, good-quality crab meat (actually, any crab meat) is hard to come by here in Estonia. Instead I have to settle for imitation crab, or surimi. Here's a quick and simple topping for a slice of toast or soft roll that I quite happen to like. Imitation Snow Crab Sandwich (Lumekrabist saiakate) Makes four 120 g packet snow crab (surimi; make sure you use the best one...

difference between Austin and Oslo, with regard to gym clothes

From Tales of a Texpatriate, 1 weeks ago, Similar articles

Going to the gym or out for a workout in Austin meant the following:Find t shirt.Find shortsSunscreen your faceThrow on sneakersGo (you're just going to sweat, so why bother dressing up')Going to the gym in Oslo is substantially more fraught with etiquette, dress codes and pain in the assness: Observe weather. If wet, carry sneakers and wear rain/snow boots, as the gym has a 'no outdoor shoes' policy so you have to make sure not to track in any wet on the gym floor. If not wet, can dispense...

Picture of the Week: Snow in April

From Correr Es Mi Destino, 2 weeks ago, Similar articles

Three Frozen Tulips, Ottawa, April 2012   On Monday, I was publishing a photo article on ?Early Spring in the Farm?, and I was joking about jinxing the nice weather. Well, looks like I did (sorry Ottawa!). On Monday morning, we woke up to freezing temperatures and light snow. The snow actually melted during the day and it turned into rain pretty quickly, but the ?oh crap' feeling lingered through the day. I just don't know what to wear these days. Thrown with abandon on the chair in the...

A promise to my daughter - Roibos and Vanilla Muffins With Chocolate Chips

From Lucullian Delights, 3 weeks ago, Similar articles

Dark white. Seeing white through my camera often surprises me because the camera doesn't adjust nuances and shades like my brain does. There are so many whites: shining white, bright white, eggshell white, cream white, blue white, snow white, dirty white and dark white - the list is long. And it doesn't surprise me because if white is all colours come together, there are even more

Climate Change

Climate Change

From Ali Blah Blah, 3 weeks ago, Similar articles

This is the weather in Santa Barbara a couple of days before we flew off to England:As you can see in the following photo, all was not quite what it seemed. It was a freak snowfall, and only on the top of the mountains overlooking SB - and even though my girls are wearing quite a fine array of Old Navy fleece, they are in fact gloveless and completely unprepared for real snow. Here I am herding them towards a patch of snow, iphone in hand, desperate for that 2012 Christmas photo...Anna said...

2012: Week 6 SNOW!

2012: Week 6 SNOW!

From MarathonMum, 1 month ago, Similar articles

This isn't the picture I uploaded to the 52weeks group on Flickr-- I went with the Royal Borough of Greenwich fireworks snap-- but I had a hard time deciding. The weekend was notable for the SNOW on Sunday, which was gone by Monday afternoon. We had a terrific time sledging in the park, and I'm thrilled to report that Thing Two's tolerance for sledding has now extended to 2 hours, up from 45 minutes last year. We're hoping for some more snow though before the end of the winter.

First Signs of Spring

First Signs of Spring

From Sietske in Beiroet, 1 month ago, Similar articles

Somehow, when the first backgammon players appear on the sidewalk, that's a sure sign of an upcoming spring.  They are still in their winter jackets, but the 'tawleh' is outdoors. On the right, hidden by the awning, you see someone lurking on a water pipe. Bad weather is still predicted for this week, but even though there's plenty of snow on the mountains, it's will be too warm for skiing, unless you show up on the slope at 8 A.M. And that is very unlikely to happen with an 18-year old....
