Floods Approach Bangkok from the North (*ouch*)
From Street Smart Sukhumvit, 8 month ago Similar articles
I woke up today to this headline in the Bangkok Post:"Flooding Concerns Turn to Bangkok" (read the original article HERE).It basically says the floods that have been wreaking havoc in so many provinces are coming closer and closer to Bangkok. Parts of Ayutthaya (Thailand's ancient capital) are already flooded, and since the Chao Phraya River runs through Bangkok, it won't be long til the deluge hits the capital city.I HAVE been wondering about the floods, actually... It rains almost every...

An old favourite
From Lioness in Japan, 2 days ago, Similar articles
The kangaroo and I go back to Killiney Kopitiam Siglap purely for nostalgic reasons. The famous lontong has been watered down (to cater to droves of people who come for this very dish) but we would still make the hike in a cab from my folks’ place in the north. I tend to have very short stays in Singapore and don’t really have the chance to gobble hawker style food. I mean, none of my friends fancies chowing down on oily fried food without air-conditioning. Also my folks are...

Sunday Evening In Centro
From Brenda And Roy Going To Mexico, 1 weeks ago, Similar articles
Last evening we went downtown to have dinner and to watch some of the dancing on the Malecon for International Day of Dance. Â They had dancers from various groups in Guaymas such as the Casa de la Cultura and Belles Artes and some dance groups also from Obregon, the next city south of us. We had a good dinner, both of us having a loaded hamburger and fries. Â I am sure this sounds silly to anyone up north; but it has been ages since I have had a hamburger and fries. Â It is not...
TOO MUCH FOOD, Chicago Edition
From Londonelicious: A food blog, 2 weeks ago, Similar articles
Time for a break. Too many restaurants, too little time. And I’m TIRED. I know, I know. What happened to all your photos, Krista' What happened to full blog write-ups' Â Frankly speaking, no one restaurant has driven me to such great lengths in a long time. So micro-reviews it is for you. For now. Personally, I kinda like the micro-review thing. It’s like Twitter. Or a Haiku. (A long one.) Benny’s Chop House, 444 N. Wabash, River North (ish, because I kinda feel like Wabash...
Flower Bridge

While driving to the north, we stumbled upon this bridge.Initially I thought it was a Roman bridge, but not everything that looks oldnecessarily is old. The Romans weren't the only ones that could build bridges; It is an Arab (Ottoman) bridge built in 1806, to cross the Ibrahim riverright on the coast.Obviously inthose days most goods were transported by mule or donkey, not even carts, sincethe bridge is covered in a staircase. In spring, all of Lebanon is covered in yellow Crown...
Explosion at Senses...
From Life as we know it, 1 month ago, Similar articles
A gas explosion hit the Senses resort in Kaslik north of Beirut owned by my sister and her husband, on Saturday morning, the morning of New Year's eve. My mother called me in tears. The whole Senses team went for questioning. Everyone thought it was a terrorist attack. Everyone was screaming and shaking.Later in the day, after further investigations, the explosion turned out to be the result of a gas pipeline leak, and that the blast was not an attempt to sabotage the resort. The blast caused...
The Moroccan Moussem de Tan Tan: and a tale of warriors on Peace and Prosperity Square
From My Marrakesh, 1 month ago, Similar articles
It's on Peace and Prosperity Square that I watch them -- the Saudi dancers. Because the Moussem de Tan Tan is not just for Moroccans; nomads, Bedouins and distinguished guests from countries north, south and far afield have been invited. The dancers move with precision and unerring discipline. They stamp their feet in perfect unison. There's a  bang on the drum... and a flash of color. Their voices rise in a kind of symmetrical chant. Then they hold...
The Moroccan Moussem de Tan Tan: and a tale of tents
From My Marrakesh, 1 month ago, Similar articles
The bedouins had come from afar -- as far away as Timbuktu and even farther. They had been lured from the North to the South, from oasis to oasis, for the Moussem de Tan Tan.  Along the way they stayed in tents, known as khayma.  These were no ordinary structures, oh no.  Some had strange and beautiful patchwork insides made gleaming by the sun.  The bedouin women are the makers and the keepers of the khayma. We -- the onlookers at the Moussem de Tan Tan --...
Emma's new bike
From Not so desperate yugowife, 1 month ago, Similar articles
Last week-end we bought Emma her first bike with pedals (until now she has been using a balance bike, like the one Will is on in the pics). It was a bit scary for her to actually pedal instead of having her feet on the ground...She made progress quite quickly once she stopped freaking out every second. The hardest thing about Emma and novelty is her negative approach to things (even things she is clearly good at!). It's really hard to keep praising and encouraging someone who is constantly...
Fort Zeelandia - Anping- Tainan
From Sandy's Neipu Notebook, 1 month ago, Similar articles
Some Neipu friends and I took a train one hour north to Tainan to spend a beautiful day on Friday. We took the Number 2 bus from the train station to the Anping area and just spent the day there at Fort Zeelandia, Old Street and the tree house all within walking distrance. The fort is 50 NT and the Treehouse is 50 NT. What a fun and relaxing day. The local specialties could be found at a stand
