So, the continuation of the story of the weekend's walk will have to wait.  Per això, l'historia del cap de setmana haurà d'esperar.Cause I was at the hairdresser's on Tue getting my hair dressed (cut) and he was telling me about this break up the week walk he was going to do with a friend (and fellow hairdresser.  They were going to leave super early Wed morning, climb Puig Mal (2911 M) and come back for lunch.  I asked, slightly pathetically, if I could come and he said...

Bessie continues her journey. The initial excitement has worn off, and this is a week of mixed emotions. I have left unedited some politically incorrect terminology. Feb. 25th (Sunday) Had a run of 270 miles ? temperature 73 degrees. Saw the drill of all the sailors on deck, & afterwards retired to the Saloon where Divine Service was read by the Captain, followed by a discourse by a

Breastfeeding in the Media (AGAIN!) - Time Magazine Cover

From Mama(e) in Translation, Today, Similar articles

I thought I'd just make very quick commentary on this week's Time magazine cover (although I don't want to engage in the "mommy war" discussion that the cover question wants to provoke, I fully agree with Katie Granju on this one, we're all "not mom enough"  at one point or another in our mothering lives). The photo didn't bother me -- although anyone who has ever done extended breastfeeding, including the mom portrayed, will know that that's just a posed shot and NOT the way we...

Tuesday evening games-fest II

Tuesday evening games-fest II

From This is Cyprus, Yesterday, Similar articles

It's nearly eight months since my good friend Joan and I, in the temporary absence of our husbands, held a five-hour 'games fest' evening. It so happens that this week, once again, our menfolk are away at the same time. So we thought we might try a re-run.  Not that it was quite the same... for one thing, I knew I would not be able to walk even as far as the local Souvlaki Express.  I thought I had bruised my toes badly three weeks ago. The advice and observations of various...

Stay In The Conversation

From Baroness Tapuzina, 2 days ago, Similar articles

It’s now much easier for you and your commenters to keep track of the conversations you’re involved in across WordPress.com. Some recent tests have shown that by subscribing commenters to new comments by default, they are more likely to stay engaged and come back and comment more on your blog. With that knowledge, we’ve changed the default comment following behavior to help you get more conversations going on your blog. We made the initial changes last week and after great...

English class

From de kooijtjes, 2 days ago, Similar articles

I finally picked up enough courage to visit one of the orphanages and I'm glad I did. Even though it is school holidays this week many kids, actually only teenage girls, showed up for the English class given by volunteers. One of the ladies led the lesson for the first 30 minutes after which each volunteer worked with a small group of kids to help them practice what they have just learned. It was a lot of fun! PS: On our way home Bernardo took a wrong exit and slightly panicked when we...

Gone forever

From de kooijtjes, 2 days ago, Similar articles

They always come in teams those maintenance guys hanging all over the place doing all type of jobs around the house we've never even asked for. Last week after they replaced the blinds and cleaned the air conditioning my small purse with vintage jewelries got missing. Our shipment should arrive to Luanda in the end of May and our house is still very empty so it was easy to go quickly through all our stuff. I searched for it again and again still hoping I will find it somewhere. Then I spoke...

Prolonged spring in Paris.

From Put Your Flare On, 3 days ago, Similar articles

Maximilien was on break from school for two weeks in April. I worked one week and decided to close L'OisiveThé the second week so we could spend some quality time together. The creche doesn't close during the school breaks so Alixe was all business as usual. We kept her in the creche the two weeks because she was in the midst of full blown potty training!   She sort of initiated her potty training phase herself. She came home one day from the Creche asking for a culotte. Being...
