An awkward interview on gay rights in Liberia

From Plantains and Palm Trees, 3 weeks ago, Similar articles

Tony Blair is visiting Liberia through his Africa Governance Initiative (AGI). The Guardian did an amazing interview with Blair and Ellen Johnson Sirleaf in part about legislation that criminalizes homosexuality.  In the interview, awkward throughout, Sirleaf clearly does not want to talk about the issue.  She says she will not sign any law decriminalizing homosexuality because Liberia has traditional values that she wants to uphold.  She uncomfortably repeats that line a few times,...

Up until last summer, I was working on a charter schooner as a deck hand and crewed on boat deliveries up and down the coast. Last night, I gave a talk at Cambridge Mobile Apps Group (yeah, it’s a mouthful, I know!) about marketing your own app with no budget. When I arrived at the venue, Tony, the event host, shot over to say hi. With a slightly concerned look on his face, he told me that the room our event was meant to be hosted in was mid-renovation so I had no projector or screen for my talk. After mentally skimming through my slides, I reared up for the challenge and decided to see how my talk would go...

Funeral of 8-year-old Tony Jafet RodriguezPhoto: La Prensa, Honduras"My son was playing on his bicycle in the middle of a gun fight.
