My 1980s novel ? The Screaming Divas

My 1980s novel ? The Screaming Divas

From Gaijin Mama, 4 month ago Similar articles

I’ve often talked and written about The Screaming Divas, a novel set in underground 1980s Columbia, South Carolina. The novel was inspired by the all-girl groups of the early 1990s, such as Bikini Kill, and also by my nights hanging out at a club called The Beat. I have a certain fondness for this novel and all that it evokes. It was once represented by a big-time agent, who, alas, couldn’t sell it. The timing was off, I guess, and I’m not sure that it’s publishable...

Ohayo Singapore

From Lioness in Japan, 6 days ago, Similar articles

I never ever ever ever drink booze on flights but somehow the Frankfurt-to-Singapore leg of my month-long trip transported me into a 12-hour nightmare with three screaming babies. Not just crying, but high-pitched don’t-give-a-rat’s-ass type of screaming. It’s such a cliche to say this but it must be what hell is like. Hey, I still love kids but I just couldn’t hack it. For realz. I never use “z” as a suffix, ever. There were so many passengers ordering...

Crocs Shoes Accident At Escalator BSC

From New Life in KL!, 1 weeks ago, Similar articles

After a nice late lunch at Pressroom in Bangsar Shopping Centre (BSC), we walked around the neighborhood mall to kill time. When I went to the toilet at the ground floor (very near the drop off and photo shop / cake shop), I saw a mom carrying her crying little boy (about 4-5 years old). He was screaming and crying while the mom put him near the faucet to wash his foot. After I washed my hands I notices his foot was bleeding due to a big cut. I offered some band-aid (mommies are usually...

This was Quinn's reaction to all the republican efforts to control every aspect of women's health care. I know, kiddo. I can't quite believe it, either.   Part of me wants to write a more in-depth blog post about these issues, but when I try to think of what to say I just end up screaming obscenities.  So I'll just say this:  The Handmaid's Tale is seeming less and less like a work of fiction, and more and more like something the GOP would suggest as a legitimate way...

Explosion at Senses...

Explosion at Senses...

From Life as we know it, 1 month ago, Similar articles

A gas explosion hit the Senses resort in Kaslik north of Beirut owned by my sister and her husband, on Saturday morning, the morning of New Year's eve. My mother called me in tears. The whole Senses team went for questioning. Everyone thought it was a terrorist attack. Everyone was screaming and shaking.Later in the day, after further investigations, the explosion turned out to be the result of a gas pipeline leak, and that the blast was not an attempt to sabotage the resort. The blast caused...

What a day! What a morning! Skye was screaming as if the house was on fire!At 7:00 a.m., she runs into our bedroom screaming: " Mommy! Daddy! Santa was here! Santa was here! He got me a bike and lots of presents! He even ate his Christmas cookie which we left him and drank all his milk! His reindeer ate the carrots which we left, too!" As you can tell, it was a morning made of chocolates and sweets, sparkly wrapping paper and dreams. Wish you were all here to share our joy and...

Merry Christmas from Rome

Merry Christmas from Rome

From At Home In Rome, 4 month ago, Similar articles

Just in case you were worried, I want to reassure you that the Christmas spirit, Roman style, is alive and well around these parts. How do I know this' Let me count the ways. This morning, as I (stupidly) was entering my neighborhood supermarket, I passed by a 40-something woman getting into her car, screaming the following festive words of greeting at the top of her lungs: “And let me tell you something, I’d beat you up right now if it wasn’t for the fact that it’s...

My manky mink

From Tales of a Texpatriate, 4 month ago, Similar articles

It gets cold in Norway.I mean, yeah, I know people know that, but damn, it gets COLD in Norway. And sometimes my goosedown duffle coat just doesn't quite cut it. Sometimes, you need to go old skool. So I finally gave in and went Russian style and bought a mink coat. (Russians know cold, and they know how to keep warm, too.)Now, before you PETA types come screaming at me, listen up.I don't buy new fur, and I don't think I ever would. (I do have my grandmother's old sable muff, and a fur stole...
