Excitement at the Apple Market
From Here There and Everywhere, 2 month ago, Similar articles
“This is what happens when you live in a state where every other person is carrying a handgun,” AdventureMan grumbled as we left the Apple Market. We had been to see the new Sherlock Holmes Movie, Game of Shadows, (really action packed, by the way, and entertaining) when we remembered we needed milk. The Publix parking lot, shared with Toys R Us, is totally gridlocked on this Wednesday night before Christmas, and we figure the Winn Dixie, shared with Target, Michaels, etc. will be...

From Frenchless in France, 2 month ago, Similar articles
It has slowly come to my attention that the French don’t do Christmas songs, at least no where on the scale of America. I play Christmas songs here on my Internet radio because that’s something I miss. I noticed that the song, Let It Snow, being sung by Dean Martin was the music for a French TV commercial and hear Perry Como singing The Christmas song in the background (along with many others) when I’m at the grocery store. There’s a smaller replica of the Statue of Liberty which looks great against the yellow of the tree behind it. I always love...

Deb Roy: The Birth of a Word
From Here There and Everywhere, 2 month ago, Similar articles
Come back when you have some time – you’ll need about twenty minutes to watch this TED video about communication. I love this – but then you know I am a word nerd, and I love the way concepts are born and grow. Computers have aided language analysis and taken it to lengths that were previously inconceivable. First, Deb Roy shows – with videos, graphs and cloud analysis – how his son learned to speak his first word. He goes from there to what I would call...
