Weekend Travel Ideas

Sometimes you just need to get away.
Weekend Travel Ideas
Even living as an expat outside your home country, or perhaps even more so because of the situation, vacations are still a necessary part of life for staying relaxed and happy. However, just picking up and leaving for a long vacation isn’t sensible financially or time-wise for the majority of expats. Therefore, it may be worth the time to take a few shorter weekend trips to refresh yourself whenever the need arises. For a few fun ideas, see below:

• For You

Travelling with your family or just significant other can be an exciting experience for everyone. No doubt children enjoy trips and chances to explore, and a relationship between two can bloom with short holidays away. But sometimes either the rest of your loved ones are too busy to take a trip, or you simply need some time to yourself to unwind. Here are a few ideas just for you...

-Spa Weekend: Although not the cheapest option, it certainly is the most relaxing. Check into a spa for a night or two and allow yourself to be pampered with massages and manicures. Dine in the spa’s restaurants and take some me-time soaking in Jacuzzis. Bring along a book and order up a glass of champagne for a perfect weekend away.

-Weekend with Women’s/Group or Interest Group: Everyone has hobbies that their children or spouse may not relate to. Take the opportunity to explore that side of yourself by booking a weekend with a special interest or hobby group so you can delve into what interests you. If you enjoy cooking why not look for a baking course, or if you’re a tennis player, look for any weekend camps.

• For You and Your Significant Other

-Bed and Breakfast: Get away from your hectic daily lives with a trip to a quaint bed and breakfast a few hours from home. Explore any sights in the area during the day or spend the time catching up with one another. No phones or emails allowed here, take a break from work and just enjoy one another’s company!

-Road Trip: Go with the flow! Get a map of your region and takeoff with no destination in mind. Only stop once you’ve found something interesting to explore together. The thrill of the vacation may be just what your relationship needs for a little spice.

• For the Family

-Sightseeing: Nearly any city you could be living in is within distance of a sightseeing hot spot. If the drive is within a few hours take that option, or book a quick flight to a nearby country or state. Stay within your timezone so you don’t have to deal with any lagging and take a few days to explore a new place with your family.

-Camping: The old standby for an exciting weekend in the wilderness. Kids today can enjoy camping out just as much as those in generations past. Find a campsite away from the buzz of the city and spend your weekend roasting marshmallows and stargazing with your family. Just remember the mosquito spray!
