Beer, mustard and cheese bread recipe, inspired by Welsh Rarebit

From Nami-nami, Yesterday, Read 0 times. Similar articles

Are you familiar with the British pub classic, Welsh Rarebit? It's a slice of toasted bread topped with a melted cheese, mustard and beer concoction. Excellent, if rich, comfort food. Those three flavourings are all present in this soft yeast bread that's been a favourite for years - I even included a recipe in my first cookbook. It's soft and tender, with plenty of gutsy flavours going on. It's obviously not a bread that you'd toast and slather with jam, but with some extra cheese or a slice... Read more

Mollie Makes visits my tea house.

From Put Your Flare On, 5 days ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

I recently friended a UK based American expat named Leigh who was visiting Paris on a extended trip. We hit it off from the start. She has a cute blog and an even cuter daugheter named Lois who Maximilien took a liking to immediately. Lois doesn't speak French but that didn't keep her from making fast friends with Max. You would never believe the conversations these two had a mismash of French and English and lots of laughing and wrestling. Lois can keep up with the boys for sure. No... Read more

My first election voting as a British citizen. Exciting times!, a photo by MAStapleton on Flickr. My first election voting as a British citizen. Exciting times!Sure, the polling station was empty, with a slight air of resignation and boredom. But after securing our British Citizenship a year ago, I didn't care-- this was the first time I got to actually vote in an election after living here for more than 13 years. This was a big day for me, and definitely my highlight for Week 18. Read more

The perfect tribute to Václav Havel : the Václav Havel Prize for Creative Dissent

From Empty Nest Expat, 2 weeks ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

The Goddess of Democracyfrom Tiananmen Squarecirca 1989Václav Havel and the Czechs inspired my 'Empty Nest Expat' adventure. I knew people who could elect a playwright as President were different in a way I couldn't define than me and my countrymen. The Czech Republic seemed like such a delightfully highbrow learned society. I wanted to learn all about the Czechs by moving overseas and seeing what they were like.To this day, I'm inspired by Václav Havel. This week, I... Read more

Medical insurance in Cyprus

From This is Cyprus, 2 weeks ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

Anyone stumbling on my post, a week ago, about our upcoming immigration appointment might be vaguely wondering what we did about the requirement for full medical insurance. Indeed, depending on your viewpoint, you might be wondering why we do not already have full medical insurance in Cyprus, or - at the other extreme - why, as British citizens, we need anything at all other than the European health card. To answer the second part: we moved here before Britain was in the EU, and before... Read more

HORN PLEASE

From Delhi Bound, 3 weeks ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

I'm becoming just a wee bit obsessed with capturing all that India has to offer.   Color.  Signage.  I imagine what some of my photographs would look like, framed and matted on a wall.  I wonder how I would ever choose amongst the thousands and thousands of photos that I have taken over the past three years.   Halfway through my stay here in Delhi I started the Fading Ladies group with 5 other expat women.  We came from... Losing the plot

From Not wrong, just different, 3 weeks ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

I thought I ought to post something so that you know I'm ok after the trauma of the tornado. I don't want you to think I've lost the plot.Speaking of which, I have read on more than one American-in-Britain expat blog how much they enjoy that phrase. 'Lost the plot'. I agree. It's a splendid phrase, and one I've stopped using since being here. I've lost the 'lost the plot'.Of course I'm also in Read more

Beautify your home with plants

From New Life in KL!, 3 weeks ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

For those looking for plants, orchids and other planting accessories (and necessities), you can try this huge place at Petaling Jaya which houses a lot of different small nurseries. I went there to buy organic soil, pots, orchid, and other flowering plants. Price seem reasonable and if you are an expat like me you may run into some communication problems as some of them employ non-English speaking Malaysians. Though that didn't stop me from spending an hour (and money!) at that place.Hope this... Read more
