Healthy Ice Fruit Pops for Kids

From New Life in KL!, Today, Read 0 times. Similar articles

It was a coincidence as I discovered this ice pop shop at Hartamas while I was having the car services at Lim Tayar place. The owner is a Malaysian married to an expat and she shared her story why she decided to open such a shop. The ice pops were tasty and naturally sweet (no sugar added!!!) I sampled the banana strawberry and fell in love with it!This is a great, yummy treat for my toddler who seems to be fascinated with ice cream nowadays. Unfortunately when she doesn't finish, mommy ends up... Read more

The Expat Unfriendly Netherlands - Take Two

From A Letter from the Netherlands, Yesterday, Read 0 times. Similar articles

Not all Dutch things are easy to adapt to(c) Amanda van MulligenAround a year ago I published a blog post which threw up the question whether the Netherlands was a friendly place to live for expats. The resounding response was no. And it was the most commented on post I have written - with comments still coming in.It seems that most of you indicated that making friends with Dutch people is nigh on impossible. That Dutch people are very closed off (to expats) and that the local language is a... Read more

Mollie Makes visits my tea house.

From Put Your Flare On, 1 weeks ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

I recently friended a UK based American expat named Leigh who was visiting Paris on a extended trip. We hit it off from the start. She has a cute blog and an even cuter daugheter named Lois who Maximilien took a liking to immediately. Lois doesn't speak French but that didn't keep her from making fast friends with Max. You would never believe the conversations these two had a mismash of French and English and lots of laughing and wrestling. Lois can keep up with the boys for sure. No... Read more

The perfect tribute to Václav Havel : the Václav Havel Prize for Creative Dissent

From Empty Nest Expat, 2 weeks ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

The Goddess of Democracyfrom Tiananmen Squarecirca 1989Václav Havel and the Czechs inspired my 'Empty Nest Expat' adventure. I knew people who could elect a playwright as President were different in a way I couldn't define than me and my countrymen. The Czech Republic seemed like such a delightfully highbrow learned society. I wanted to learn all about the Czechs by moving overseas and seeing what they were like.To this day, I'm inspired by Václav Havel. This week, I... Read more

HORN PLEASE

From Delhi Bound, 3 weeks ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

I'm becoming just a wee bit obsessed with capturing all that India has to offer.   Color.  Signage.  I imagine what some of my photographs would look like, framed and matted on a wall.  I wonder how I would ever choose amongst the thousands and thousands of photos that I have taken over the past three years.   Halfway through my stay here in Delhi I started the Fading Ladies group with 5 other expat women.  We came from... Losing the plot

From Not wrong, just different, 4 weeks ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

I thought I ought to post something so that you know I'm ok after the trauma of the tornado. I don't want you to think I've lost the plot.Speaking of which, I have read on more than one American-in-Britain expat blog how much they enjoy that phrase. 'Lost the plot'. I agree. It's a splendid phrase, and one I've stopped using since being here. I've lost the 'lost the plot'.Of course I'm also in Read more

Beautify your home with plants

From New Life in KL!, 1 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

For those looking for plants, orchids and other planting accessories (and necessities), you can try this huge place at Petaling Jaya which houses a lot of different small nurseries. I went there to buy organic soil, pots, orchid, and other flowering plants. Price seem reasonable and if you are an expat like me you may run into some communication problems as some of them employ non-English speaking Malaysians. Though that didn't stop me from spending an hour (and money!) at that place.Hope this... Read more

Taxes and Toilets

From Ya' All Right?, 1 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

A bit of a warning - I've ranted about taxes before (quite a few times, I believe) and I'm about to do it again.  It's tax time, and that stinks doubly bad when you're an expat.  Thank goodness for KPMG, as I would never be able to do my taxes on my own.  Not only are they long and complicated, but because I'm an expat, I'm unable to file Federal taxes on-line.  That means a trip to the post-office, one of my least favourite things to do.  How long is the return' ... when you have to pay, you file on the last day

From Mama(e) in Translation, 1 month ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

Last year I made a mistake when filling my W-4 form and I somehow claimed too many allowances (5!), so I only paid about 1% of federal tax and we had to pay over 1K. I already fixed the W-4 and hopefully that won't happen next year. Since we had to pay, K filed our taxes Sunday night and the money was withdrawn from our account yesterday. The good thing is that we're getting about 800 back from the state, so we'll be almost even. Phew!I hope not to have to pay again anytime... Read more
