When Does Ramadan Start in 2012?

From Here There and Everywhere, 3 days ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

The Islamic Calendar website Godweb says Ramadan in 2012 will start July 20th. Time and Date (which is where I found this beautiful photo) agrees. Sometimes it depends on the country where you are living. Wikipedia tells us this: Many Muslims insist on the local physical sighting of the moon to mark the beginning of Ramadan, but others use the calculated time of the new moon or the Saudi Arabian declaration to determine the start of the month. Since the new moon is not in the same state at the... Read more

Driving through the musseque

From de kooijtjes, 4 days ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

It's always very crowded in the narrow, dusty streets of the slums. How come that there are no old people here' Is this because of the war' ?Yes, but also they don't come often out of their barakas. Besides, there are not really old people here as they usually don't reach the age of 50. The living conditions in the slum are extremely bad. It's too crowded and utterly unhygienic with mounds of rotten garbage and no clean water.? The average life expectancy in Angola is not more than 39 years!... Read more

A lizard is your friend

From de kooijtjes, 6 days ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

Every morning there is a fresh dropping right in front of the door. I thought it's from the big lizards living in our yard and didn't really pay that much attention to it at all until yesterday. Our neighbor said she suspected rats! Quite distracting, considering that Maarten is playing there all the time. I did some research and found that there's probably no need to worry. Rodent's droppings when dry remain solid compared to those here that crumble very easily into a dark dust. There is a... Read more

Canadian Small Towns - Gananoque

From Correr Es Mi Destino, 1 weeks ago, Read 0 times. Similar articles

Even though I'm very much a city person and can't imagine living in a place with a population of less than 500,000, I'm in love with Canadian small towns. Over the year, we visit quite a lot of small towns, mostly in Ontario but also in the U.S. Some were just a stop on the road to or from somewhere, some were a getaway, but most of them were simply lovely. It's a cliché but the pace of life is different and people are friendlier than in the big cities. It's also refreshing to see fewer... Read more
