It was a coincidence as I discovered this ice pop shop at Hartamas while I was having the car services at Lim Tayar place. The owner is a Malaysian married to an expat and she shared her story why she decided to open such a shop. The ice pops were tasty and naturally sweet (no sugar added!!!) I sampled the banana strawberry and fell in love with it!This is a great, yummy treat for my toddler who seems to be fascinated with ice cream nowadays. Unfortunately when she doesn't finish, mommy ends up...

Not all Dutch things are easy to adapt to(c) Amanda van MulligenAround a year ago I published a blog post which threw up the question whether the Netherlands was a friendly place to live for expats. The resounding response was no. And it was the most commented on post I have written - with comments still coming in.It seems that most of you indicated that making friends with Dutch people is nigh on impossible. That Dutch people are very closed off (to expats) and that the local language is a...

don't be alarmed! it's not as bad as it sounds, but still pretty annoying and depressing.Edited to add (11:13 am Friday): I think my brother will be able to travel thanks to our cousin in Curitiba, Paraná (state South of São Paulo) who is the head of that state/city's passport office. Phew! I don't know what was lost with the computer. Probably lots of his work files as well...My poor brother is stuck in Brazil where he spent the last 4 days on a quick business trip. He was due to be back...

I'm in the final day of frantic packing, cleaning and organizing for my trip to the States on Friday (why, oh why did I book an 8:20am flight' WHAT WAS I THINKING') and for some reason I'm inordinately more anxious about this trip than I usually am when I travel. (And no, I'm not having premonitions about bad things happening to the plane. I'm just freaking out about the piles of laundry, the messy kitchen, and the fact that I haven't vacuumed, food shopped, or ironed Georges' work shirts yet....

I recently friended a UK based American expat named Leigh who was visiting Paris on a extended trip. We hit it off from the start. She has a cute blog and an even cuter daugheter named Lois who Maximilien took a liking to immediately. Lois doesn't speak French but that didn't keep her from making fast friends with Max. You would never believe the conversations these two had a mismash of French and English and lots of laughing and wrestling. Lois can keep up with the boys for sure. No...

When I travel, I check with Weather Underground so I will know what to pack. While I barely had time to unpack and do mammoth piles of laundry to repack for the next trip, I did have time to check the weather. Lovely weather, highs in the high 50′s and 60′s, going up to 80 on Mother’s Day this coming Sunday.
So when we landed, and the pilot said “Welcome to Seattle, it is 47° out, my only possible response was “That can’t be right.” But as soon as I...

Google Maps is pretty good; I use it on my computer, on my iPad and most of all, on my iPhone. I love that when I tell it to get me from Grand Canyon Village to Mesa Verde, Colorado, it gives me a variety of routes, with the exact mileage and estimated travel time for each. It is very accurate, and also gets us through small towns where you might have to change roads a time or two. You just make sure the pulsing blue ball is following the bright blue road. Piece of cake!

We ironed out the financial aid mess that was stopping us from making our move down here on Tuesday and packed up to leave Washington on Thursday evening. Stuart drove through the night whilst the baby slept which was really a perfect idea and if we need to go anywhere far away any time soon (let's hope not) that's how we'll travel. We stopped in Meridian, Idaho at about 7am and went to our hotel to clean up and get a few hours of sleep. Check out was at noon so it was a luxury stop and a bit...
